Vol. 6
  - with Naømi -
Thank you for signing up to the Athletica Newsletter!!! This is a mail out curated by a new artist each week, with a Spotify playlist, a BuyMusicClub list to buy those tracks on Bandcamp, and iso tips for how we're staying sane. It's also going to include a link to Bla(c)k Lives Matter resources, updated weekly (see up top).

This volume is curated by Naømi.

Naømi is a Sydney DJ as comfy with HI NRG house as she is with chilled out Soulection beats. She weaves between both in sets for The Wall, Chinese Laundry, and local cult-favourites, Sauti Systems

If 'rona hadn't hit, Naømi would've been gearing up to head to Splendour in the Grass with the Sauti crew next month, but with festivals postponed we'll just have to dance in our rooms to her playlist instead.

Music Naømi Likes...

A biiiiig mixed bag in here, jumping between Chicago house classics, Jungle heaters, UK rap, and Soulection vibiness. Naømi says she doesn't care for genre and she means it.

...And Where To Buy It

Our sparsest BuyMusicClub list yet!! Only two of the above tracks are avail on Bandcamp, but they're well worth the money. DJ Slugo is a Juke pioneer, Skin On Skin is an Aussie star on the rise, and both these tunes hit. For added incentive, on Friday June 19th (the day you receive this email) Bandcamp is donating 100% of their sale share to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. If you want to bulk up your cart a bit more, you can comb through past Athletica BuyMusicClubs here, or check out this list of 1800+(!) Black artists on Bandcamp.

Naømi's Iso Tips

Isolation has been a new experience that I wouldn't have thought I'd ever come across in life lol I have been discovering new music on Spotify and Soundcloud and expanding my palette to new genres as well so that once iso is over and clubs reopen, I can try and incorporate these genres into my sets. I have been shopping heaps (thanks scotmo) and trying to cook and bake which turned out to be an absolute fail. I have also been playing sims 4 and sims 2 which I highly recommend, I'd say thats whats been keeping me the most sane. I adopted a little domestic long hair kitty in mid march just before iso and her name is Gia and she is a gem.
She is super standoff-ish but also gives the best cuddles. I have been spending time getting to know myself better and getting a deeper understanding of both my cultures especially the Congolese side. I'm learning more about the history of Congo and also the African American history which is so relevant right now with everything happening. It's really eye opening and heartbreaking but we gotta make a changeeeee !!!!!!
Concluding this, I miss clubs and playing so bad. SO excited to see everyone excel when clubs reopen.
